Our Learning

Small nursery. Big adventures.

The Old Fire Station is a friendly, nurturing nursery where children are encouraged to be curious, confident and themselves.

We provide a safe and welcoming environment where every child is known as an individual and supported to develop at their own pace.

Through play, exploration, creativity and strong relationships, we help children build the confidence, independence and skills they need for their next adventure.

Happy children learn.

Our Approach

Learning through play, relationships and discovery.

We believe children learn best when they feel safe, valued and free to explore.

Our days combine child-led play with thoughtful adult guidance, giving children opportunities to follow their interests while developing new skills and understanding.

We focus on the whole child — communication, confidence, friendships, physical development, creativity, independence and early academic skills.

Every child is different. We celebrate that.

A Day at our Nursery

A DAY AT THE NURSERY

Every day brings something new.

From the moment children arrive, they are encouraged to explore, choose, play and discover.

Our days include:

  • Creative arts and crafts
  • Messy and sensory play
  • Role play and imaginative play
  • Stories, songs and rhymes
  • Early maths and literacy
  • Cooking
  • Music and movement
  • Puzzles, games and construction
  • Nature and discovery
  • Quiet time and relaxation

There is a balance of busy, active learning and quieter moments throughout the day.

Outdoor Learning

Outside is where the adventure begins.

Our outdoor environment is a special part of nursery life.

Children have space to run, climb, investigate, build, get muddy and discover the natural world around them.

We embrace outdoor learning in all seasons and weather.

We also make the most of our local environment through woodland walks, nature exploration, bug hunting, den building, pond dipping, parks and other local adventures.

Rain or shine, there’s always something to discover.

EYFS

Building strong foundations.

Our curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage, supporting children across the seven areas of learning:

  • Communication and Language
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Learning happens naturally through play, conversation, practical experiences and relationships.

Our practitioners observe, listen and respond to each child’s interests and development, helping them take their next steps with confidence.

School Readiness

Ready for school. Ready for life.

School readiness is about much more than letters and numbers.

We help children develop the confidence to communicate, make friends, manage their feelings, become independent, solve problems and have a go at new things.

We want every child to leave us feeling:

Confident. Curious. Capable. Ready.

Food and Mealtimes

Good food. Good company.

Mealtimes are an important part of the nursery day.

We provide nutritious, balanced meals and snacks and encourage children to develop independence while enjoying food together.

Mealtimes also give children valuable opportunities to talk, listen, share and build relationships.

Our Team

People make the nursery.

Our experienced and caring team takes the time to know every child.

Our key-person approach gives children familiar, trusted adults who understand their individual needs, interests and personalities.

We work closely with parents and carers because the best outcomes happen when we work together.
